Tara’s Twist on Barbara O’neills Flu Bomb REcipe

Here’s a simple home remedy for when you or a family member is feeling a bit under the weather. I’ve taken the legendary Barbara O’Neill’s Flub Bomb recipe and added my secret ingredient to make it even more potent and effective. The recipe is made with simple kitchen ingredients that are easily available at your local grocery store, although you may need to purchase the essential oil from your local health food store. This recipe is for one person and will likely be all you need to start feeling much better. Of course, if you need a second round, go for it!

Recipe Concentrate

  • 4 cloves of fresh garlic, mashed or finely chopped

  • 1 Tbsp of fresh ginger, grated or finely chopped

  • ¼ tsp of cayenne pepper, or as much as 1 tsp if you can handle it

  • Juice of 1 fresh lemon

  • 1 tsp of raw, unfiltered honey

  • 1 drop of 100% pure, organic eucalyptus essential oil

  • 1 tsp horseradish (Tara’s twist, optional)

  • ½ cup of simmered water

Prepare the Concentrate

  • Prepare the ingredients and add them to a glass container with a lid. I like to use a mason jar. Don’t add the eucalyptus oil yet.

  • Simmer water and pour ½ cup into the jar of ingredients

  • Stir mixture and allow it to steep for 15 minutes with the lid loosely on the jar to keep the vapors from escaping while it steeps.

  • After steeping, add 1 drop of 100% pure, organic eucalyptus oil and replace the lid.

  • Store in the refrigerator for 1 day.

  • This is your flu bomb tea concentrate.

Instructions for Use

  • Simmer some water in a kettle

  • Take 1/3 of the concentrate and combine it with ½ cup of simmered water

  • Allow tea to cool to a drinkable temperature. When drinkable, you can take it like a shot, or sip like a tea. I prefer to gulp the tea, and chew on the bits of garlic and ginger.

  • Consume the mixture three times daily

  • Prepare a new batch the following day if necessary.

  • Children can consume half the adult dose. If you begin teaching them about herbs when they are young, they will drink it gladly. Have fun, smile, and be creative.

Herbal Allies

  • Garlic is known for it’s anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties.

  • Ginger is also known for similar properties to garlic, however, it is also good for calming inflammation, pain, and nausea.

  • Cayenne is abundant in vitamin C and possesses anti-bacterial properties. It is a stimulant herb that is helpful to move congestion and promote healthy blood flow. It is the number one cardiovascular superstar, but it also helps to break up mucus.

  • Lemon is full of vitamin C and bioflavonoids. It adds some acid to the mixture to help pull out the constituents of the other herbs.

  • Honey is full of beneficial nutrients and is very soothing to the tissues in the throat. It also helps to make the other ingredients palatable.

  • Eucalyptus essential oil is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and has an opening effect for the lungs and sinuses. It also helps the membranes to absorb the herbal constituents more readily. Essential oils are the most potent form of plant medicine available, use sparingly. They must be 100% pure essential oils and organic.

  • Horseradish cuts through the mucus in the sinuses and allows the pressure to release from the head. It is also helpful for the lungs plagued with cough. The sulfur content in the root provides protection against harmful bacteria, without the side effects of pharmaceuticals.

  • These herbs are not a substitute for medical intervention. They are a tool in your belt to help support the natural function of your body as it detoxifies and heals. Seek medical attention when necessary.
